Cambridge Academy of EnglishEstablished: 1975
The Cambridge Academy of English was established in 1975 and has long been accredited by The British Council. We are a medium-sized centre, big enough to run a full range of levels throughout the year, yet small and flexible enough to be able to meet the needs of each individual student. We are also a very international centre with students from more than 60 countries coming to us every year for courses ranging from two weeks to a full academic year.
The facilities include a self-access study centre (with a multimedia room, a library, and a computer room), a common room, a student club and free internet access. There is also provision for sports, including tennis, football, volley ball and table-tennis.
The school is located in attractive premises in a very safe residential area on the outskirts of Cambridge (15 minutes by bus from the town centre), with all host families within easy reach of the school.
As it is home of one of the world's greatest universities, Cambridge has a lively student culture. Every day while the university is in session there are concerts, plays, meetings and lectures that are open to the public. There are two theatres in the city, two concert halls, a pop-music venue and a number of nightclubs. Of the thirteen cinema screens, three shows foreign and minority-interest films. Many of the colleges have first-rate chapel choirs, who sing evensong every day, and perform public concerts. The city has a wealth of bookshops, a fine museum and a number of art galleries, one of the best of which is Kettle's Yard. Many of the college and university buildings are architectural masterpieces, both ancient and modern. The newly developed Cambridge Science Park has an international reputation for hi-tech research and development.
For most of the year the average number of students in your class will be 9 - the maximum is 12. If you are studying for a period of more than 2 weeks, one important feature of your course will be the regular one to one tutorials with your personal tutor. This is an opportunity to review your progress.
