Curriculum and Study Options
Many students join a boarding school aged 13 or 14 to follow the GCSE curriculum, with exams usually taken in Year 11, aged 16. Students can also join aged 16 to follow a 2 year A level or International Baccalaureate programme. Both exams qualify students for entry to university.
Some schools also offer a 1 year GCSE programme. Summer programmes offering English language tuition plus a range of academic and recreational activities are also available. Mentor Counsellors can explain all these options in more detail.
UKiset has been designed as a single assessment that can help schools identify the most suitable pupils, and families find the right school for their child. It is an online entry test taken in English designed to support admission into the UK boarding schools.
First-class care and guardianship
In the UK all students under the age of 18 are required to have a nominated Guardian. The Guardian fulfils many of the roles of a student's real family. Mentor works with Brightworld and several other Guardian companies who provide comprehensive care for students while studying at a boarding school. Your Mentor counsellor can explain more about this requirement
