School Introduction

Kings is proud of being an ademic-plus school where pupils with a broad range of ability can excel but all have the opportunity also to develop talents beyond the purely academic. In 2016, 83% of all A level grades were A* to C and pupils went on to study at a broad range of top universities for degrees in Sciences, Arts and Business. As the oldest Cathedral Choir School in the world, music is a huge strength and produces excellent results. Musical performances are of an extremely high standard and are often performed in the beautiful and ancient Rochester Cathedral which is the Schools Chapel.

The School has some of the best school sports facilities in the South East of England with 8 Lawn Tennis Association - standard outdoor courts, 4 outdoor netball courts, a multi-purpose indoor sports hall for hockey, netball, tennis, badminton, trampolining, fencing, judo and table tennis. There is also a newly-equipped fitness room with cardio-vascular equipment as well as a restaurant and viewing gallery. Kings also has a boathouse on the river Medway where pupils may row and we use professional standard rugby pitches which adjoin our Sports Centre. Cricket pitches and nets are located next to the indoor swimming pool on our extensive playing fields.

Pastoral Care and Community
Pastoral care and ensuring that pupils feel part of a strong school community are huge strengths of Kings and integration of new pupils is a major focus. They arrive a few days before term starts to enable them to enjoy a practical induction course with boarding staff and other new boarders while school is still quiet so they feel settled and rested when term begins. We work hard to foster a family atmosphere in which problems are quickly resolved and strengths shared. We welcome close liaison with parents/guardians and are happy at any time to discuss details of boarders development and well-being
Ongoing pastoral care is the responsibility of the Housemistress, Resident House Tutors and a House Parent. Tutors give advice on educational, personal and pastoral matters as required, especially at critical times such as option choices and University applications.
The aim of our Boarding Houses is to ensure that all boarders grow up in a secure, caring environment where each child receives the necessary care, attention and opportunities to develop and mature educationally, socially, physically and spiritually.
